Mary McWay holds an MAT from NC State in middle grades social studies. She is certified in 6-8 Science and Social Studies, and 9-12 History. For her undergraduate work she studied sustainable development from a global perspective, earning a degree in Anthropology. She started her career as an outdoor educator with the NC Outward Bound School, teaching environmental education and character building in a variety of backcountry settings. She thrives in interdisciplinary approaches, empowering students to be leaders, and making connections outside the classroom. She spends most of her free time outside in her own garden, exploring local hikes and rivers with her family or planning their adventure. She led the Germany Exchange program in 2017 and loves to create meaningful field experiences for students. She has served as a 7th grade teacher at Explrois and is currently teaching Connected Worlds with the Global Arts Program.
